Cradle cap is the scaly or crusty patches of skin on your child’s scalp. Cradle cap is caused by the skin producing excess oil on the scalp, which creates those scaly patches.
On an infant, all you would have to do is apply the oil to the scalp, put a cap on if you choose so it doesn’t make a mess and let it work its magic. Be cautious of baby's soft spot.
On older babies and toddlers, massage the oil onto baby’s scalp and let it soak in for awhile while he or she plays in the tub. Then you’ll need a fine-toothed comb. Comb out baby’s hair, gently dragging the comb against baby's scalp. The oil will help loosen up the cradle cap, and the comb will gently pry it off of his or her skin.

- Sweet Almond Oil is a mild oil from the sweet almond that has a light texture and is hypoallergenic making it very gentle on the skin. In addition sweet almond oil softens and conditions hair and skin and replaces the protective coating at the shaft of each hair which helps protect the hair from breakage. Almond oil is rich in magnesium, zinc, and calcium. These minerals are crucial to hair growth and to prevent hair loss.
- Red Clover contains tannins, which are drying and help dry out the follicles that are over-producing the oil. It also contains protein as well as minerals and vitamins, including vitamins B and C, calcium, chromium, magnesium, thiamine, niacin, phosphorus, potassium, nitrogen, and iron to nourish the skin into health.
- Calendula is a plant that has anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties, both of which will help ease your child's cradle cap symptoms.
- Plantain has been referred to by one Cherokee Elder as an “Indian band aid.” Wounds treated with plantain have shown faster healing times and greater collagen growth in the wounds. It also has great anti-inflammatory and astringent properties that make it a great healing herb for eczema, rosacea, shingles, etc.
